While I want to get the plane ....
Dear Neil,
I have been thinking about the Siegel & Shuster families who have received the rights to Superman, and now I have some questions for which I can not find the answers and maybe you can answer.
(I use your work as a reference point, because you know what rights you have in them.)
If a character was created by more than one artist (Superman by Siegel & Shuster, Tim Hunter of you & Mr. Bolton), then have two artists or their descendants the right to sell independently of each other licenses etc? Could the descendants of sealing the rights for a Superman movie to Fox and the descendants of Shuster at Universal, sell and still make DC films with Warner? And you only have the rights to the character, or you have the right, the stories you've written, for example, for "Sandman" or some other series to sell?
It bothers me that there maybe a David Niven "Casino Royale" situation with other characters, which I like, especially come the Man of Steel could.
Greetings!

I think you mean "Thunderball" is not "Casino Royale" - the problem was with "Casino Royale" IIRC was simply that someone else had the film rights, and she used to make a parody of to make after the Bond films had been successful. Thunderball was co-authored (started has as a film writer with several authors, Fleming then published in novel form, and the other author then sued his copyright on the screenplay), which is "Never say never," enabled which has the same plot .. .
is the short reply: Yes, thou can And it's not as easy as trademarks and something must be remembered and also most of the comic are the examples you use commissions and belong to the company.
Look at the Posner decision (under http://www.projectposner.org/case/2004/360F3d644/ - the link I had stated two days ago, is probably dead) If I were a Medieval Spawn comic - or Medieval Spawn underwear - will license , I can co-create this It is not a commissioned work, and is one of the two.
If DC Comics Superman with future problems and wanted to avoid the estate of the inventor, I think they would have full knowledge of the law in 1999 in a resonable to deal with the family make Shuster, instead of fighting through a nine-year process. Now say the Shuster: "Thank you for the money, of course, everything remains as it was." instead of "Ouch, you're mean. Why did you let us fight for what belongs to us? We go to Marvel and Twentieth Century Fox and leave a Superman film shoot." I would have done it, I would be DC and Warner.
My assistant reminded me just because I will leave in 40 minutes to get to my plane to Australia, and that I blog in my pajamas and so now please to release the keyboard ...
